First Master Thesis Proves GPEM a Model of Success

The VGU is proud to announce that the 24-year old Trần Kim Ngan is the first to submit her Master thesis in the GPEM Master program, which has been jointly developed and since 2013 coordinated by the VGU and the Institute for Machine Tools and Factory Management at the TU Berlin.

The Academic coordinators for the GPEM Master program at the VGU and the TU Berlin, Dr.-Ing.  Carsten Reise, and Dr.-Ing. Peter Stammnitz congratulated the young woman on the successful completion of her thesis, which marks an important milestone in the still-young history of GPEM.

The Master program aims to provide innovative, solution-oriented and sustainable technologies and therefore trains highly-qualified engineers whose skills are tailored to the Vietnamese market requirements.

With over 600 applications in the first two intakes alone, it is one of the most successful and most popular study programs at the VGU. With regard to the university’s excellence initiative, only 55 of the most talented students were accepted. Ms. Trần Kim has satisfied and even exceeded all those requirements.

Already in 2014, within the framework of a project competition, she demonstrated excellence in research and practice. The project aimed at developing a sustainable concept for gasifiers as a part of the ancient Terra Preta sanitation system. Together with four fellow students she was granted a DAAD scholarship to study several weeks at the Institute for Machine Tools and Factory Management (IWF) of the TU Berlin.

With regard to Vietnam’s production requirements and restrains, Ms. Trần Kim’s team successfully produced charcoal from rice hulls. The results of the project work were presented at the 12th Global Conference on Sustainable Manufacturing (GCSM) in Malaysia and were decidedly contributive in the decision to bring the 13th GCSM to the VGU.

The GPEM Master program will continue to attract the attention of the public and especially of Bachelor graduates from all over the world, who will substantially contribute to its ongoing success story.
