Exchange Students

1. What privileges do exchange students have?

VGU warmly welcomes exchange students from international universities around the world.

Exchange students who are nominated by a partner university of Vietnamese German University are exempted from paying tuition to VGU.

Exchange students from other international universities have to fulfill VGU admission requirements, i.e. GPA of all subjects of minimum 6.5 and English skills of at least IELTS 6.0 [or TOEFL 550 (PBT) or 79 (iBT)]. Alternately you can join onSET-Test, minimum of 71 points is required.

Exchange students from non-partner universities have to pay tuition fee as regular international students.

All exchange students are self-responsible for all other expenditures, including flight ticket, health insurance, dorm and bus fee.

2. Study plan and learning agreement

Please agree upon with academic coordinator of your interested study program on courses and modules you would like to take for the exchange semester. Please provide a learning agreement to VGU and also to your supervisor at your home university. Please take care by yourself that courses taken at VGU will be recognized at your home university.

3. Application

Either you are being nominated by a partner university of VGU or you apply from another university for an exchange semester at VGU, we expect to have signed nomination letter or your filled application by the end of February for next winter semester (beginning approximately in mid-September), by the end of August for next summer semester (beginning approximately in mid-February) the latest. As soon as we receive your complete application documents, we will issue an Admission Letter. 

4. Preparation and tips

a. Before departure:

Visa: We will support you in applying for a reference number at the local Immigration Office, with which you can apply for an entry visa into Vietnam at a Vietnamese consulate/embassy in your home country. Please send us herewith your scanned passport. Please make sure that your passport is valid for at least 12 months upon arrival in Vietnam.

Health insurance: In order to entry into Vietnam, you are not forced to buy insurance. However, we recommend you to buy a health and accident insurance for the time abroad. Please find some possible insurance offer here. (!) Disclaimer: Exchange students are self-responsible for maintaining health insurance and VGU does not take over any costs associated with medical care.

Accommodation: Either you register for a room in VGU dormitory in Binh Duong city (if available) or you rent a room in Ho Chi Minh city. A student room in central HCM costs approx. VND 3,000,000 – 8,000,000/monthly. A room in dormitory is for 2-4 students and costs approx. VND 2,700,000/semester. Please register for dorm directly on the application form if you wish to live at dorm.

b. After arrival


Please register at the Student affairs Unit, Binh Duong Campus, Room A108b asap. Please hand in this form together a photo (3x4), a copy of passport and visa.

You will be provided a VGU student card including accounts to use different tools such as SIS, ILIAS, library as well as bus ticket. If you lives at the dorm, please contact dorm officer first to get support in time.

Orientation session

Time and venue of the orientation session will be informed to students as soon as possible for you to prepare for the arrival.
The student affair officer gives guidance and help students to register, rent houses, buy bus ticket and other logistic issues while the program coordinator provides students with information about courses, timetable and examinations.

c. Before going home


Before leaving VGU, exchange students must complete the clearance form stating that they fulfill all obligations relating to tuition fee and other fees or book returning to library

Transcript of records/certificate

Based upon the performance of students and the clearance confirmation, VGU will issue transcript or certificate of course attendance for exchange/guest students.

5. Rights and responsibilities

Exchange students have the same rights and responsibilities as a regular student of the VGU. However, your student status will be exchange student.
